Once upon a time there was a teacher who loved her job very, very much. As the years passed by, she loved her job no less, but she found that she was struggling to adequately meet the needs of her learners. As she gazed out upon the rows of desks in the classroom, she saw the faces of learners who were as varied as can be. Some of them were working above grade level in many academic areas. Other students were trying their best to keep up with grade level outcomes, while still others were only able to meet with success after special changes were made to their programs. In a classroom bursting at the seams with thirty diverse learners, the teacher felt as though meeting all of her students’ individual needs was becoming an insurmountable hurdle. More and more each day, the teacher found herself yearning for a solution to help her become a stronger educator; one who could better differentiate her instruction to allow all of her learners to soar. An idea began to take shape in her mind. Having already begun to incorporate technology into her teaching practices, she could see a great deal of potential in this approach, but she was not sure what to do next. Knowing that neither magic beans nor a fairy godmother would present themselves before her to help her out of this dilemma, the teacher took matters into her own hands and enrolled in the MET program at UBC. With a heart full of hope and technology at her fingertips, she embarked on a journey that would forever change her.
