ETEC 500- Research Methodology in Education
Gathering background knowledge.
Writers write about what they know and research is a big part of laying the groundwork before a story can begin to take shape. This course was an introduction to issues and practices in educational research methodologies. For me, ETEC 500 was about discovering how research potentially impacts my role as an educator.

Classroom Application
A classroom application that came about from this experience is the way in which I now look for trends in my students’ behaviour and academic performance. For example, when marking an assignment, I often keep a sticky note beside me and I record common student errors, misconceptions and strengths, so that I can use this information to shape my instruction as I plan upcoming lessons to address my concerns and/or extend the students’ learning further. I would consider this to be coding on a very informal and basic level, but nonetheless I am gathering data, coding the information and drawing conclusions based on my observations.
