ETEC 565A- My Digital Story: An Unexpected Discovery on my Summer Vacation
Although I feel that each and every project that I created throughout my MET journey were valuable experiences, the assignments that involved creating projects that I could actually use in my own classroom were particularly beneficial. When I initially read the project description for the digital story assignment in the course syllabus at the beginning of the term, I anticipated that finding a personal tale that could be told via a digital story and that also fit into my Moodle unit of study was going to be a challenge. However, once I knew that I was building a Science unit on the human body, my digital story topic became an easy decision. I love teaching through story and I often tell my students personal stories that connect to the concepts that we are learning about. I decided to build a digital version of a story that I tell my grade fives each year at the beginning of our unit on the circulatory system. I have included this artifact of learning in my e-portfolio as I think that it shows how the medium with which a story is delivered does in fact influence its impact upon the veiwer. The fact that my students can now see related images while hearing the words of the story itself greatly enhances their understanding of the information. Because of this assignment, I am planning to create more videos of this type to use in other subject areas too. Please follow the links below to view my ETEC 565A e-portfolio page pertaining to my digital story. This page of my e-portfolio includes the video, along with a personal reflection about the project experience.
