ETEC 512 Artifact of Learning- Thought Paper #3: The Constructivist Approach
Wading into the work of Von Glasersfeld and his paradox was a challenging excursion for me. Through both the course readings that were assigned in association with this task and the valuable discourse that transpired among my classmates, I was able to come to terms with not only the paradox, but also with the way in which constructivism eliminates the barrier proposed within the paradox itself. While working on this particular task, I experienced an epiphany of sorts. I came to the realization that as an educator today, I did not need to maintain the teaching style of the educators that I was taught by throughout my own education. In a way, as a result of this assignment, I gave myself permission to step aside from the role that I was playing as a conveyor of knowledge and I began to re-evaluate my own teaching approaches, which for the most part were fairly traditional. The value of constructivism began to become very apparent to me at this time and it also became my focus area for my final ETEC 512 project, which also happens to be my third artifact for this course.
